In Response To Kim

Kim wrote a blog about being secretive which I can totally understand.  The funny thing is I haven't been but every time I bring it up people don't understand what I'm talking about.  First of all I've got to stop referring to it as "PCP" because people think I'm on drugs.  After some explaining people inevitably ask, "So it's like a workout plan?" and I respond, "Well, there's a workout plan but 80% of it is diet."  And then people immediately assume that I'm starving myself to death.  Once I tell them that I'm eating a lot but without salt, sugar, etc. . . I'll see that people are still confused so I'll stop talking about it.  So even though I haven't been secretive about it I choose to not bring it up that often.  And honestly I've mentioned the blog and no one has asked to see it.

There is one person that was very interested in the project though.  My sister just had a little girl (and she is amazing) and wants to be in shape again.  I think she would be a perfect candidate for the project but I worry that it might be too difficult while she has a newborn.  I can't imagine barely sleeping while on this project and I'm not far in.  Seeing other peoples blogs I can tell that it's just going to get harder, and I know she can be really hard on herself.  I'm going to get through the 90 days and talk with her about it.

Mangos rule.

  1. I have a 2-year-old daughter and I can pass along to your sister that she doesn't need to try doing the PCP *right* after having a baby. The first year or so with a child is completely, utterly disorienting, and you need to work out a rhythm of caring for the child and doing the rest of your life. Plus, if she's nursing, a lot of the baby weight will come off very easily and quickly.

BUT -- there are a lot of things from the PCP that she can implement now. Like: eating whole foods instead of processed foods, staying away from sugar & salt, getting some kind of cardio exercise every day, etc etc.

I can highly recommend this program for getting back in shape (although I'm now in better shape than I ever was, even before having a baby) once things settle down. :)

  2. Just say "I'm eating lots of vegetables and jumping rope every day." People will probably just shrug it off, unless they're really into knowing more about it!

Totally with you on the mango front.

  3. It's strange, the way people hear what they expect, rather than what you say. I'm impressed that you tried at the beginning to tell folks what was going on with you. Also, mmmmm, mangoes.

  4. Yeah, people's perceptions about what is "healthy" and "diet" is so out of whack that they'll have no idea what you're talking about. Give em a few months to watch you change and then you'll have to handle more detailed questions.

  5. my answer as of late: "i'm doing a health thing." not very scientific, but most people don't really care about what you're doing, unfortunately (or, fortunately!).
